Maya's speech on the event stage: My dear brothers and sisters, I am very happy to come to you. In the age of social media, I get news of your happiness and sadness from faraway countries. And when natural calamities like Amphan or Bulbul hit your village, my family stood by your side on behalf of you. I know you have to spend your life through many adversities. I hope you will achieve success one day. Maya Sports is by your side. I helped Sharmila Bawali with her job preparation. I am very happy to hear that she is now working in the Civic Police. Some of the girls who have grown up in this academy are playing in Kolkata, which was unthinkable even a few years ago for girls from these remote villages. I can play in Calcutta. You are improving gradually. I hope to have more success in the coming days. I wish you all the very best. Be well, everyone. Thank you.

Originally from North West India, the forefathers of Singharay family had moved to Bengal about 350 years ago. They settled down in a small village named Paduma in Birbhum which they call their true ancestral home. Members of the family have branched out to various parts of India like Hiren Singharay – who lives in Surrey , England : his daughter Ayndrilla lives in Brighton England with her family and son Indranyl in Taos, New Mexico with his family.
The Singharay family had donated land and helped put up the first buildings in 1966 which has now blossomed into the current Ganra Paduma School where we have started a fully fledged Free Computer Teaching School with fifteen computers. On successful completion of the course, the students receive nationally recognised diploma. The family also provides stipend and scholarships for students of the village to support higher and vocational education, all under the supervision of Mr Ataul Haque who teaches at the Granra Paduma School.
Hiren Singharay was inspired by the welfare projects ran by his cousin Mr Suvrendu Roychowdhury in Sundarban area for over a decade , providing midday meals, building housing for the needy. That led to the idea of supporting the deprived children of Sundarban, starting with a Girls Football Training which would give the girls a support and shelter away from the danger of trafficking . Thus Maya Academy was born which now operates on three fronts : A football academy for girls aged 12-17 , coached by Mr Pintu Kumar Das, a free coaching class for children aged up to ten on Saturdays and Sundays taught by Mrs Hafsa Molla and a free computer training school at Birinchibari Junor School under the able teaching of Mr Sujit Naskar.
Located near Basanti, Sundarban, Maya Academy is a family project dedicated to the welfare of needy deprived children of the area, entire funding of which is provided by the family
